That’s not 100% true. Catholics have some lesser holidays, celebrating certain saints, that aren’t appropriated from pagan holidays. But, for the most part and when it comes to the big holidays, that is true.

Religion tells man that nature’s bounty can be had through the recognition and worship of God. The result? Nature’s bounty isn’t fully received by man because not all of his thinking is directed at claiming it. A portion of what he receives is siphoned off to people who provide him with something he doesn’t really need to be able to get it.

Goodwill… I was with you on the first part. The latter is simply a steaming pile of bullshit. I see no correlation between the porn industry and organized religion, and trust me, I’ve been ass-deep in BOTH. For one thing, porn doesn’t ask it’s people to “follow” wisdom from a source that can never be proven as tangible. Porn doesn’t offer any unforeseen, eternal rewards or require any standard of living to obtain those rewards. Porn doesn’t require that you sacrifice your time, belongings, way of life, habits (the list could go on forever, depending on exactly what sect of religion we’re referring to) or anything else up to be a member in good standing with your great invisible friend.
GW… Get a grip. This is a stretch, even by your standards. Porn is a PRODUCT. It is created for commercial use to make a profit. It is purchased by consumers who have no pressure or obligation to buy it. The people who make it, distribute it, and buy it are doing so of their own free will.

Actually I would say the 1st holliday from daily work-activities was established at the end of Creation, by God.
Genesis 2
2-And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3-And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
God even went the extra mile and put a Reminder about the Holiday in the Ten Commands. (The oringal, not the movie).
Exodus 20
8-Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9-Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10-But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11-For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
And how’s that worked out for us? Well, we decided we’d prefer to take the 1st Day (Sunday) of the week instead. God says, do a good job-get your work done-reward is a day off at the end of the week. Man says, fuck you-I’m going to take my day off 1st-use the next couple days to recover-do some work, then quit early and use the last day (7th, Fridaynight-Saturday – recall evening and morning were the 1st day) as a kicking off point for my holiday.
We’ve been fuck-ups right from the beginning.
