Condom Use In Porn Pretty Much A Lock.

In a move Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles coulda seen coming Cal OSHA today has announced the formation of an advisory committee to make condom use in porn mandatory.

from www.nbclosangeles.com – Condoms in porn could be mandatory, as California regulators are set to review a petition from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

The Cal/OSHA standards board will review the petition on Thursday, the Los Angeles Times reported:

On Thursday, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health standards board is scheduled to consider a petition the foundation filed in December to change state law and require condom use and other safe sex protections for adult-film workers, including increased safety training and testing for sexually transmitted diseases.

Board staff and staff at the state’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health have recommended that the board create an advisory committee to consider amending the law “in order to give greater protection to employees in the adult film industry.”

“Although workers in adult films should enjoy protections under the current phrasing of the regulation, as well as the Board’s determination that adult film workers are employees, the adult film industry has steadfastly refused to take any steps to protect its workers from diseases spread by blood borne pathogens, resulting in thousands of employees becoming infected with sexually transmitted diseases. Clarification and enhanced enforcement of the rules are called for,” according to the petition.

OK lets be honest with ourselves here…does anyone REALLY think that advisory committee is going to say they are doing fine leave them alone?  If the industry tries to use AIM as its defense we are going to get trounced, unless someone is paid off. Here is one of the things my readers will recognize, that they will use against us…AIM doesn’t even use Gold Standard testing and the so called “Doctor” Sharon Mitchell’s formal accredited education amounts to a GED.  That’s it.

Now I have heard it said that if this passes companies will just move.  That’s not true, some will go outta business.  Some shoot renegade and some will simply shoot outside of Los Angeles, most I expect will simply outsource.

This could be a death blow to many DVD companies that are already getting killed. The bigger companies that do survive will see greatly increased sales with far less competition from the gonzo end of the market.

The question is not if condoms will be mandated, I’d say that’s almost a lock, but how far they will go, will condoms be required for oral? Will facials be a thing of the past? Will dental Dams be required?  That’s the question and when it happens AIM can shut its doors

  1. I likely speak out of ignorance here on the issue of condom use in the porn industry, but is the problem with mandatory condom use in porn because condom use in porn undermines the entertainment value of porn, or because it’s an unfair regulatory mandate, or both?

Also, while on the short run it would likely hurt porn industries in California even while porn is feeling the pinch from the economy currently, would there be a possibility that other places in America pick up on the slack and drive people in the industry to try harder or do things differently? I don’t see Atlanta becoming the next porn capital, but it is a funny thought.

  2. Atlanta may not be porn-friendly, but Florida seems to be — I predict the industry will just move to Miami. There are at least three large internet-type porn companies filming in Florida already plus lots of mom and pop type companies.

  3. Sorry Bob, but I don’t know of any porn made in Ohio that has been sold nationally (I am sure Mike has personal tapes of his liaisons, however). Heck, I don’t know if it is legal or not to make porn in Ohio, others have said only California and New Hampshire are known to be legal — although Florida doesn’t seem to care about porn in its borders either. Maybe you can be the first to make porn (and sell it nationwide) from Ohio and make millions.

  4. Curiously, what notable companies are based in the South? And I suppose porn wouldn’t be eligible for all those incentives and tax cuts what you hear going on in Georgia for movies, TV shows, games. Such a pity, it’d be a fine way to bring business in, in my opinion anyway.

  5. If California mandates condoms, my guess is most other states would follow suit, especially if the adult industry migrates in a big way in their borders. Nevada, for instance, is a pretty wide open state, but they mandate condoms in brothels. Why wouldn’t they mandate it in film. FLorida is a pretty conservative state politically – right now, the few companies involved in porn probably fly under the radar. The same organizations that have been pushing for condoms in California would probably just turn their efforts to new states. If so, it’s hard to image the chamber of commerce or state legislature that’s going to say: Hey. Set up shop here. We’re happy to put our citizens at risk for STDs.

  6. I know that BangBros. and Reality Kings film a boatload of movies in Florida (I think Reality Kings also has its corporate base in Florida). There are also many mom and pop type adult film studios there (maybe someone should e-mail Brian from Giirlz Inc. for a complete list). If I recall Mike also films in Florida (if I am mistaken, sorry). Let’s just say the models in Florida seem to have plenty of work, which is more than I can say about LA!

  7. I shoot mostly in GA and OH a little in FL.

I know Reality Kings and Bangbros used to shoot exclusively in florida but they have since started outsourcing to L.A.

In the grand scheme of things they are rather low key and You can pretty well figure Vivid aint gonna up and move to Florida in the hopes that FL-OSHA doesnt do the same thing.

Not to mention the likelihood that Hirsch is gonna uproot is slim and none. The big boys like Vivid will just do condom porn for the features and they will prolly do better particularly if the heard thins.

Any non condom product will be strictly pro-am type stuff thats outsourced outside of Los Angeles.

Thats how I see it comin down anyhoo

  8. Since you film in Ohio sometimes, I have one question: How hard is it to find people that will fuck on camera there? Also, have you had problems with the law regarding filming in Ohio? Hopefully you haven’t had problems attracting talent and the law leaves you alone to do what you do best, but it is worth asking.

On a lighter note, I can see your next box cover now, “The horniest (or sluttiest) girls in Ohio”! Since you are probably the only person (or one of only a few) filming porn in Ohio (even if it is only a few weeks a year), that should sell like hotcakes on a Sunday morning in the Midwest. It is a rare treat for me to see a Midwesterner on porn (the last person I can think of that made it reasonably big from here is Calli Cox). I bet those southern girls with accents are fun in Georgia as well (remember Nicole Brazzle from one of the older Amateur Angels tapes, she was so cute with that accent)!

  9. LOL I did the Bill Cunningham show once in Cincy and I taunted the locals saying that I was going to shoot hardcore in downtown cincy outdoors during the day. i was there protesting the arrest of a mild mannered lady who sold a few couples oriented porn features in her new age book store.

The state attorney general called into the show and told me he would do everything in his power to locate and arrest me if I did

    I told him “good luck”

On the flip side Dayton is way more tolerant the local cops know what I do and I was told so long as nobody complains they dont really care long as everyone participating is an adult and there are no drugs or alcohol involved.

I have shot a TON of girls in OH and have more wanting to shoot all the time…finding them there is like shooting fish in a barrel

  10. Glad things are looking up for you regarding shooting in Dayton. I doubt they have to worry about drugs on your set unless they are concerned about Viagra. As for that Attorney General, tell him to fuck off next time you see him (or film yourself fucking the AG if it is a woman)!
