For those that aren’t aware, Instagram has turned off all hashtags until after the election in an attempt to halt the spread of possible false information and/or harmful content related to the election. They aren’t just hiding hashtags regarding politics either, they have turned off all of them including fun ones like Halloween or #FlashbackFriday.
Social media, and Facebook in particular got in a lot of trouble after last election when it was revealed they played a big part in spreading false information related to the election.
Instagram says they are committed to reducing the spread of false information and giving people accurate information about voting.
