Group sex should be normalized

Group sex might make society a better place

Group sex, also known as group sexuality, refers to sexual behavior that involves multiple participants. Despite being a relatively common form of sexual expression, it is often stigmatized and misunderstood by society. This can result in negative consequences for individuals who engage in group sex and for the wider community, including decreased sexual health, increased social stigma and discrimination, and criminalization of sexual behavior.

However, there may be some potential benefits for governments to promote the normalization of group sex to the public. Historically the most hedonistic of sexual activities has always been the orgy. Once a pagan ritual (from ancient Greece) of unrestrained public drunkenness interlaced with a sexual free-for-all. The governments through the ages in an effort to control and predict their populations has assigned specific feast days to this reveille. The last such festivity being Mardi Gras, a compromise of the Neo-Christian Roman empire to precede the guilt laced, self-deprivation practices of Lent. Today sexual liberties are viewed as a paramount example of personal liberties. And much has been done to address whom we can choose as sexual partners, in the West. While group sex remains somehow stigmatized.

Normalization of group sex could reduce social isolation and encourage people to be open and honest about their sexual practices, which could reduce the negative psychological impact of shame and judgment. This, in turn, could promote greater equality and tolerance within society. Another benefit is improved sexual health outcomes. Normalizing group sex could lead to increased education and awareness around safe sex practices, including the use of barriers and testing for sexually transmitted infections. This, in turn, could lead to a reduction in the spread of STIs, which would have positive public health outcomes and lower healthcare costs.

Furthermore, normalizing group sex could also result in a reduction in criminalization of sexual behavior. In many countries, group sex is still considered illegal or immoral, and individuals who engage in such behavior may face legal consequences. By promoting normalization, governments could help reduce the criminalization of consenting adults’ sexual behavior and increase the protection of their rights. But since cultures and communities differ greatly in their attitudes toward sex, there may be social, moral, or religious objections to promoting its normalization.

Therefore, promoting the normalization of group sex to the public could bring several benefits to governments, including improved sexual health outcomes, reduced discrimination and stigma, and reduced criminalization of sexual behavior. However, it is important to note that normalization must be approached in a way that is inclusive, respectful, and promotes sexual health and safety for all participants. Please keep in mind that these are only potential benefits, they may not necessarily be realized in practice, and also there may be unintended consequences.
