Is social media dying ?

And why is social media dying if true?

There are many reasons why social media is dying and perhaps its least acknowledged fault is that it makes everyone miserable. Unless one has been living off grid in a cave for the last 6 years, everyone is aware of the trolls, state propaganda, countless bullshit stories and claims. A multitude of men use social media predominately to meet women, while an equally large number of males create fake female profiles; either in an attempt to role play sexual fantasies or because they’re affiliated with the platform or have a product to promote. Added to this already broken mixture, are social media administrators with personal bias and political agendas dictating the visibility of your accounts and comments. We are left asking ourselves, “Why would any mentally stable person want to be on these sites?”

Never in human history has humanity had it so good. The advances of the past 100 years are undeniable; go back even further, and for most everyday life would be unfathomable. Almost no one alive today will ever have to plow a field by hand or use moss for toilet paper. The majority of people born in the last 20 years will never know a time without air-conditioning, indoor plumbing or easy access to fast food. Modern society even allows us to engage in indiscriminate sex acts without the fear of being ostracized or unwanted children. Technology has greatly blessed society, when we compare our lifestyles to how our ancestors lived.

Alas, too many of us are living in misery.

A common saying among the World War 2 generation was “too much of a good thing can be bad for you” and it’s been proven over and over again to be very true. Therefore, it should be no surprise that even with all the blessings that technology has bestowed upon us, that it’s failing to bring us joy. Social media dying is directly related to it’s failing to bring us true happiness, particularly the happiness that real face to face social interaction gives us. And most recently, social media is not even providing a delightful distraction to our busy lives.

Future historians studying the 21st century will undoubtedly arrive at the conclusion that we were fat, fearful, suffering from some sort of dysphoria or mental illness, and drug addicts with anger issues. It makes no difference if we’re talking about Occident or some 3rd world nation, a joyless life is not healthy! Life without friends, community, jokes and physical contact is a greater threat to the survival of humanity than any pandemic could possibly be.

So what’s the solution to our problem?

Social media dying is only a start and when it’s gone it’ll only be replaced by something that’s equally (if not more) toxic. Despite all the magical tools the Internet has given us, it’s also only making a very small number of people very wealthy. Currently 1% of the world’s population controls more than 80% of the global wealth. In the USA that translates to that 1% of Americans have more than $41 trillion in bank accounts and assets. With that kind of money also comes an equally enormous amount of power. And, it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes or Einstein to figure out that the more miserable they make society, the more money they get. To be blunt, they’re getting rich from our suffering.

Is Social Media dying ?

So is the solution, “Kill the Internet?!?!” Just get rid of it and deal with a world without streaming services, on demand porn, instant bank access, online shopping, or having a phone in your back pocket. Instead go back to land line telephones and striking up a conversation with the person in front of you in the grocery store line. Aside from a catastrophic external force wiping out Internet access, the likelihood of society breaking free from it’s master’s leash is far-fetched. Like pets fattened into compliance, battling each other for table-scraps which denote our master’s favor, we re-enforce our dependency on the tech and our servitude to the people who control it. Breaking free, without the familiar comfort of our cage, a life without the plentiful industrialized fodder is just too terrifying for most to handle.  99% of society is cowardly and breaking free from tyranny is impossible without courage, and we wonder why the elite treat us like livestock?
