By now you have all probably heard that Attorney general Eric Holder has decided to disband Little Boot’s (George W Bush) Obscenity task force. And like I do most of you see the wisdom of this, for starters, it’s a waste of money at a time when we need to curb federal spending, so the Republicans should be on board right? I mean it’s very expensive to prosecute obscenity at the federal level and wins are extremely difficult.

It’s also rather unnecessary because let’s face it porn is destroying itself faster than the government EVER did.

Technically it should be a state/local issue anyway so the Republicans should be all over it as a tenth amendment issue right?

And isn’t it the Republicans who beat the smaller government drum?

Hell even the Democrats are looking for areas to cut costs so surely they are on board with this right?

Well you all know that all of the “rights?” are actually WRONGS.  The Republicans, led by Orrin Hatch are all up in arms that the federal government isn’t willing to protect us from the evils of pornography, I mean that’s tax dollars well spent…NOT.  And who has joined them in this?  if you guessed our good friends (NOT) the Democrats You’d be right.  Ultra left wing California Democrat Diane Feinstein actually signed onto the bill with Orrin Hatch, in an effort to keep the obscenity task force in place.

And you people really think there’s a difference?  It took both parties to get us into the mess we are in and if you think either party is willing to do anything meaningful to get us out of this mess you are as fucking dumb as Orrin Hatch and Diane Feinstein think you are.

Kudos to Eric Holder, it’s a small step but it’s something at least.

  1. They know that shit doesn’t work, but it’s an easy way to appease political constituencies. It’s like Obama claiming he was gonna save a bunch of health care money because the Obamacare bill created a bunch of bureaucracies that were gonna figure out how to save money.

During the ’08 campaign, before Obama had contradicted himself so many times you still felt comfortable at least listening to what he said, he made one of the best points about American politics I’ve ever heard. He pointed out that despite W Bush being pro-life, the rate of abortions had actually increased during his presidency. Then he pointed out that even though he’s pro-choice, here are the things he wants to actually do to decrease the rate. He won support from several religous groups that way. For all his ridiculousness, Obama does get that a lot of the bickering in Washington is arguing overing symbolic nonsense that doesn’t accomplish anything.

The “Obscenity Task Force” should just be one guy who has 3 or 4 vetted informants inside the industry. They’re probably the most up to date on anything obscene whether it happens in the industry or just becomes popular on webcams, etc.. This guy spends a couple of hours talking to informants on the phone every six months. If they want to report anything, they have his number. But after going after Stagliano and finally getting to court where the judge laughed at their case, probably even the people in porn look down on the “Obscenity Task Force” and wouldn’t bother with any informancy/reporting nonsense. They’ve gone backwards.
