Does Your Girlfriend Have Low Self Esteem, Mental Issues? It’s Because She isn’t Doing Porn

A recent study apparently indicates that girls who do porn are better adjusted and have more self esteem than the general population.

In the study, the psychologists compared data taken from 177 adult entertainment actresses with a sample of women matched for age, marital status and other factors. The actresses, all of whom had been paid to work on at least one X-rated movie, ranged in age from 18 to 50, with an average career in the industry of 3.5 years. More than one-third were either married or in a serious relationship, and 44 per cent were single.

One of the main claims by commentators on the industry has been that actresses have frequently experienced sexual abuse in childhood, but the researchers found no statistically significant difference between the two groups of women.

The study also showed that the actresses sleep better and have more energy. Almost 70 per cent gave enjoyment of sex full marks, compared with 33 per cent of the other women; and they had first had sex at a lower age: 15 rather than 17.

However, industry workers had a history of more drug and alcohol use, and problems possibly linked to sensation-seeking personalities.

“This study really challenges views about women who engage in sex work and the porn industry. Although the study had limitations, it is one of very few that has included matched controls,” said Cynthia Graham, senior lecturer in health psychology at Southampton University. (ANI)

Needless to say this somewhat flies in the face of previous studies which indicated much higher rates of mental disorders, lower self esteem and such.  You can download that one here:

  1. How come anytime there is any study or survey that seems to put the industry in a good light it is accepted without question by the industry as true and accurate, but if there is a study that puts the industry in a bad light it is immedeately dismissed as inaccurate and false?

The last std study is a perfect example. Out of 168 performers there were 47 std positive performers, with 30 females testing positive for stds in the throat, rectum and vagina. On LIB Mark Kernes suggested that all 47 of the positives came from the 51 performers who had not worked for over 60 days, Well, it took one email to the author to find out that the vast majority had actually worked within 30 days, and had current ‘clean’ tests.
What makes me think that AVN and XBIZ will spotlight these studies as true and accurate?
