John Asks:

Will you be moving to live in Thailand full time…anytime soon?…or ever?

For fun…do you prefer shooting handguns or rifles?

Actually I do see myself moving to Thailand.  I loved it there, our land of the free could learn an awful lot from their land of the free (Thailand means land of the free)  I wouldn’t make this move while my mother is alive though, she needs me here.

I’m a much better shot with a rifle, but then most people are, shooting very accurately at distances of 200 yards or more is an extremely gratifying feeling and few things in life match the power thrill of shooting something like a 7mm Magnum.

I have a good friend who collects dangerous game rifles and he once let me shoot his Remington 600 Nitro Express. With a firearm like that you have to shoulder it properly or you will dislocate your shoulder when you squeeze the trigger and get the living shit kicked out of you when 1200 lbs per square foot of recoil push back.

I didn’t want to shoot it a second time.  He also had a 4 bore and a VERY rare 2 Bore but there was no way in hell I was going to shoot either of those.

Shooting handguns is a different kind of pleasure, it’s the pleasure you get from confidence, confidence that if you have to you can defend yourself.  Confidence you get from taking charge of your own life.

I also like to shoot a crossbow, talk about a deadly weapon…Silent, no recoil and to 50 yards at least its as accurate as any rifle and the new luminox bolts make it easy to see where you hit even from a distance. (Luminox bolts have a laser led in the noc end of the bolt, the led activates when it strikes something.)

I grew up shooting, had my first guns ( a 20 gauge shot gun and a .22 rifle) at 6 years old. So shooting has just always been in my blood.  I remember using my dads golf tees for target practice, I would set them upside down on a split rail fence and pace of 20 or 30 yards and shoot them off the fence using open sights.  I didn’t know it at the time but I was training myself to become a really really good shot.

I’m not as good as I was in my 20s when I became a member of the 500 yard club (never made the 1000 yard club) I shot a prairie dog from 500 yards with a .223 Remington.

I’m sure Kayden will read this and be appalled….
