One of the many great things about our republic is the principle, inscribed in statute, that one is innocent until and unless one is found guilty in a court of law. Unfortunately, when there is an avalanche of news events such as those precipitated by public allegations against Roger Ailes, Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, James Toback, Mark Halperin, Louis C.K. among others, a modern ‘crucible’ returns and the danger of innocents being caught up in a witch hunt becomes real. That said, the current trend of Weinsteining, buttressed by the #MeToo campaign, has revealed some horrific charges, confirmed by multiple alleged victims and witnesses, that cannot be ignored.
Porn, like other businesses, has its scumbags, and normally the community has weeded them out in time. We’ve exposed our fair share on this site as have reporters elsewhere, to their great credit. Just as in every other field, there is no place in the world of adult for non-consensual sex, coercion, extortion or intimidation.
The Latest Weinsteining
The most recent charges have been leveled against Christopher Rifino a.k.a. C.J. from unlicensed talent agency Goodlife Models. I’ve heard several complaints from models and producers about him being a scammer, and in fact I’ve never heard anything good about him. There are two sides to any story, however, the most recent accusations call him not merely a thief but a rapist.
Now, these are strongly worded, angry accusations (you know it’s serious when a black man threatens a lynching!), but enough women have come forward, publicly and privately, that I believe these charges merit at least as much consideration as those against the long list of Weinsteined celebrities and executives.
The danger of the lynch mob remains, and there can be little doubt that the Weinsteining will continue. But as long as we remember that everyone must be presumed innocent, we can continue to shine a light into the darkened corners of the adult industry. Keep your eyes and ears open, and if you know anything that can help bring justice, please come forward.
