New York is finally catching up to most other states by criminalizing revenge porn as a misdemeanor
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a measure Tuesday criminalizing the publication of revenge porn as a misdemeanor
Under the new law, abusers could face criminal penalties of up to one year in jail, plus civil damages. It also empowers victims to seek a court order to remove the images online.
“Our laws have not kept pace with technology and how abusers can use it to harass, intimidate and humiliate intimate partners,” Governor Cuomo said. “By criminalizing the publication of revenge porn, we are empowering victims of this heinous act to take action against their abusers and showing them a path to justice.”
The legislation defines revenge porn as the criminal act of unlawful dissemination or publication of an intimate image when done with the intent to cause harm to another person and when the image was taken with a reasonable expectation that the image would remain private.
Debated for years, the bill had been held up over concerns that internet companies could be held legally responsible for inadvertently allowing revenge porn photos online.

Misdemeanor means, the cities, towns, and state will have another revenue source by collecting fines.
“Revenge porn” should be a felony and is likely prosecutable in federal court under section 2257 identification law right now. Anyone releasing sexual activity tapes of someone without their permission and a signed model release to the general public should get life without parole, be sent to Sing Sing or Attica (or an equivalent prison in the state of the law violation), raped up the ass and forced to swallow gang banger cum every night for the rest of their hopefully tortured and long lives. Only a scumbag would release private home porn movies without all people involved’s permission and appropriate 2257 records.
