You say your $318,519 is the average *sales* revenue per video, whereas the $4 million figure is for sales AND rentals; big difference.

You also neglect to take into account that the $318,519 figure is spread across however many video stores (and websites) there are that are renting and/or selling the videos. That pie is big, but lots of people have a piece of it.

Furthermore, you know as well as I do that (more’s the pity) the wholesale price of a new release is often significantly less than the price that either the distributor or the retailer charges. The last time we tracked wholesale figures (2002), the total wholesale revenue accruing to the companies was $919 *million*, compared to roughly $4 *billion* in sales and rentals.

Hope this clears up some confusion.

Actually I was figuring someone would bring this up and it was no surprise to me that it would be Mark, he is right, of course but the larger idea is that it would seem to me that a disproportionate share of the revenue generated by this biz is falling into the hands of people other than performers and such.

Now I’m four square for capitalism and all and this scenario vividly illustrates why the internet is SO much more lucrative…straight from the producer to the consumer without all the middlemen, lower price for the consumer and better ROI for the producer, and anyone who thinks that store bought DVD have better quality hasn’t looked at www.ezmadedvd.com that’s full DVD quailty right from the net.
