Several strip clubs in Providence, RI can now reopen after getting approval from the city’s Board of Licenses. However, under the new plans, no touching will be allowed at the clubs.
The Foxy Lady, The Cadillac Lounge, Desire, and Club Fantasies each submitted a COVID-19 safety plan for reopening to the Board of Licenses on Wednesday. The board approved the plans 5-0.
“There’s either a Plexiglas barrier between a patron and performer, or they have a significant distance– I believe it’s at least 14 feet of space– between a performer and a patron,” said Dylan Conley, Chairman of the Board of Licenses.
Furthermore, adult entertainment can only happen outside the club.
“These places all have patios in varying degrees in size and scope,” said Nick Hemond, the attorney representing the four clubs.
The public will not be able to sneak a peak at any of the performances.
“We were able to confirm that the clubs have barriers up, so there’s no sight lines to any of the performers,” said Conley.
The clubs can serve food and drinks inside, as long as they follow the state’s reopening guidelines for restaurants.
“They have Plexiglas at the bars,” said Hemond.
The city currently has an 11:00 p.m. curfew in place for entertainment like live music. Conley said strip clubs fall under this curfew, however Hemond said adult entertainment licences are different and do not fall under the curfew. Hemond said he will continue to work with the Board of Licenses to clarify this point.
The four clubs are now working to comply with the new guidelines and are looking at a tentative reopening on July 1st.
