Michael Avenatti is in more legal trouble than any white American man has ever been!
Attorney carnival barker Michael Avenatti has been re-arrested for alleged bail violations, federal prosecutors in New York told a judge late Tuesday.
The prosecutors said in a letter to U.S. District Judge Paul G. Gardephe that they had been informed by prosecutors in Los Angeles that an arrest warrant had been issued, and it that was expected Avenatti would soon be taken into custody.
“We understand that has now occurred,” the New York prosecutors stated in the letter.
Bail violations
Avenatti stands accused of violating the terms of his pre-trial release. His arrest occurred outside the disciplinary hearing in which the State Bar of California has accused the former attorney of faded porn star Stormy Daniels of using a doctored document to scam a client out of nearly $840,000, funneling monies from a lawsuit settlement fund to his own personal use.
Ne details show that Avenatti was arrested Tuesday for allegedly committing fraud while on release before his trial for committing all that other fraud!
The motion states that the DOJ has probable cause to believe Avenatti committed mail fraud, wire fraud, and structuring to evade reporting. He is alleged to have removed/concealed/disposed of money and personal property to avoid it being seized to pay judgments.
Bad Day at the State Bar
The State Bar of California has sought to put Avenatti on “involuntary inactive status,” as a prelude to formal disbarment proceedings.
According to a report in The Daily Beast:
During a break in testimony, members of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, who are prosecuting Avenatti in a separate criminal matter in Orange County, parleyed with Avenatti’s team of lawyers and took the lawyer into custody.
“I understand that Mr. Avenatti has been arrested by the federal authorities for violating the terms of his release,” said attorney Steven Bledsoe, who represents the alleged Avenatti victim in the State Bar case and was present when the arrest occurred.
Avenatti was scheduled for trial next week in Manhattan federal court. That trial pertains to allegations that he extorted Nike for up to $25 million.
Avenatti has pleaded not guilty in the case.
Avenatti also faces trial in May in Los Angeles on charges that he defrauded clients of millions of dollars.
The New York Times notes that:
He has pleaded not guilty to those charges, along with allegations in a criminal case in Manhattan federal court alleging he ripped off ex-client porn star Stormy Daniels of proceeds of a book deal. The second New York trial was scheduled to start in May.
