In the battle of the payment processors, it looks like Epoch got a major win today. They are currently the only billing processor who can accept Paypal for porn sites and now they can also process American Express!
It was 15 or so years ago that American Express and Discover said, no porn for you!
The industry was in an uproar, especially when they turned face and allowed Playboy, going as far as calling them a “family friendly” company.
People in the industry were pissed! It was such a huge slap in the face, not only for website owners who could no longer accept American Express or Discover but for consumers who were told they were not adult enough to know what they wanted to buy with their credit card.
Today, however, all of that has changed as Epoch.com announced their clients are now able to accept American Express.
Here’s the interesting part. When I went to take a screenshot of the American Express logo on an Epoch website you know what I found? They accept Discover and Diner’s Card too!
I didn’t even know Diner’s Club was still a thing.
While a big win for Epoch and their clients, kind of sucks to be CCBill right about now, huh? If they were able to have secured the American Express and Discover card deal themselves, that might have been enough to compete with Epoch’s deal with Paypal. Guess now we’ll never know.
Anyway, contracts to Epoch and all the webmasters who do business with them. It’s a huge win for them.
