WHAT! XBIZ Sued For Age Discrimination and Creating a Toxic Work Environment

Last year more than half a billion dollars have been paid out to employees who have alleged age discrimination, as a part of the tens of thousands of suits that were filed.

Age discrimination involves treating an applicant or employee less favorably because of his or her age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older.

It’s a legal issue you often don’t hear about in the jiz biz, but it does happen and this latest case involves none other than xbiz.com.

Don Parret was a respected industry journalist who spent 15 years of his life reporting on events and happenings in the porn biz. That was, until, according to the lawsuit he filed, he was pushed out due to his age, who were “more in touch with the industry as he was merely a legacy employee.”

In his lawsuit, he claims that xbiz.com created a toxic work environment, and push him aside for younger, talent.

He says he worked 6 to 7 days a week, sometimes as much as 80 hours a week for XBIZ. In return, he says he was harassed and demeaned by his boss.

Don Parret has a degree from California State University.  He began working for XBIZ in 2004, where he helped to launch the print version of XBIZ, including XBIZ World and XBIZ Premiere. He was not only the founding editor of the trade publications but also the magazine’s designer. He also served as the website’s chief editor and showrunner, while authoring legal and business articles.

The trial for this case has been set for February 6, 2023 – so basically a little less than a year from now in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
