Mike has steadily been reporting on the slump in DVD sales over the past year and what he predicts to be the demise of the adult video market. But DVD sales aint the only thing in a major slump.
For over 10 years there has been a “low bar of entry” in order to become a web pusher of porn. If you didnt shoot your own content a lot of “cash programs”/sponsors started giving away promo content in exchange for traffic. So even if you didnt own a video camera you could be come a porn lord by pushing everyone elses freebies.
We have long since been in a time where content is no longer king but instead the control of traffic now reigns supreme. The continued mass availibility of free porn has fed a snoballing a decay of profits both in DVD sales as well as sales on the web.
The adult online industry has preyed upon this FREE bonanza as a means of profit by taking enticing you with freebies if you will just give up your credit card. This is called a free trial which if you dont cancel in 3 days changes from free to a charge on your credit card. Not too much different from the way they used to sell free records on TV.
A few years ago some cash programs decided to bury an additional sale in the fine print of your terms and conditions. This is called a prechecked cross sale which is used by many programs that are unable to properly market for lack of both content and traffic. Their stance is why bother with an honest sales pitch to the consumer when you can pay you friends to trick them into a buy!
Now I smell despiration as I read about a new program that pays the referrer $40 per free membership while they bang out your surfer almost $170 a month in recurring charges for what they supposed might be free.
How do they do this? They precheck 4 charges to membership sites in the fine print and rely on trickery in order to get money. After examining the page at length it looks like that final sale has to be canceled seperate or they get another $50 charge as a parting gift.
Very weak salesmanship and a total lack of respect to the consumer.

I see these all the time too and I think how dumb are people? if someone is paying 40 bucks for a free trial sign up then either the customer, is getting fucked, the affiliate is getting shaved on or both.
