The problem with the sports analogy, Jaime, especially with regard to boxing, is that the sport is regulated by law – not by the sport. Boxers undergo exams. A commission – not a manager or handler – determines whether a fighter is fit to get in the ring. Fighters are required to wear some level of protective gear – gloves have to be of a certain weight; they must wear mouth guards; handwraps are inspected; referees and handlers wear latex gloves. There is a doctor ringside who can stop the fight if a boxer is too injured to defend himself. If a boxer is knocked out, he must wait a certain period of time before he fights again. So ….. if you applied the same standard to porn, health care professionals would exam performers or review their records before they shoot a scene; they might have to wait a certain period of time between shoots, especially for acts like anal or vigorous vaginal sex; there would be a doctor on the set in case a performer is injured or can’t continue a scene; makeup, prop and other handlers would wear latex; and performers would probably wear condoms. That’s the porn equivalent of protective gear.

When it comes to this law, you could say the same thing about sports agents. In many sports, being injured is expected to happen at least sometimes. With boxing, that is the whole purpose of the sport. If sports were handled like the condom issue, you would have many people in an uproar about it. Porn fans don’t have the same level of influence as sports fans.

Since legislators are reading this…
Enforcement couldn’t be simpler. An 800 number that anyone can call to tip off the authorities and possibly receive a reward for their information leading to a conviction! Underground porn will still be online, and the owners of the content are STILL responsible!
All the police will have to do is confirm that worker safety laws were ignored and take the appropriate action! Simple as can be!!!
There is nowhere in America where employers have the right to sacrifice worker safety, ESPECIALLY when it’s simply for increased profit!
