I’d even go a step further, and say: don’t assume you know why they said no either. While they are under no obligation to divulge, there are plenty of cases where it isn’t “the stigma” (as a side note, it would be interesting to amass some hard data on any increase of risk) or “racism”. But regardless, this should be an inalienable right, high above shaming and presuming you know their minds.
