When my state adopted the provisions of the affordable care back in 2012, my rates went up slightly – about $800 a year for a family plan. So, Michelle Bachman was right. But, my coverage became significantly better. One example, colonoscopies were now covered. Prior to that, they were considered an elective procedure – and in my town, a colonoscopy is about $5,000 if you have to pay retail. My wife’s annual physical and visit to the gyno is covered. And I went from no office co-pays to a $75 co-pay, from a $10,000 deductible to a $5,000 deductible. Four months later, my daughter had surgery – so my $800 in extra premiums saved me $5,000 in deductible. I think that’s a pretty good trade.

The thing I found funniest about listening to the argument over Obamacare during the last election was hearing Michelle Bachman say: Under Obamacare, a family plan on the insurance exchange will cost $17,000 a year. That is going to bankrupt families.

In my state, my high deductible family plan was $13,000 a year in premiums plus $7,450 into a medical savings account, or $20,450. A conventional BlueCross/BlueSheild plan is $26,000 a year. I’d run over my poor elderly mother to get that level of coverage for $17,000.

BT I have to agree, Obamacare has made my insurance MUCH more affordable and they didnt exclude the spinal tumor or place me in a high risk pool. yes mine is expensive but its half what it was in 2008 with better coverage. Im not so much against obamacare as I am against the lobbying done by everyone associated with healthcare from Lawyers to Pharma, to doctors to insurance companies. All I want to say is where is the lobby for us poor schmucks? The citizens….

I realize Obamacare is about as popular as a condom at a 50 man anal gangbang ….. but as someone who is self-employed and lives in one of the states that adopted the Affordable Care Act provisions in 2012, it will make obtaining health insurance easier and more affordable. It will not make it cheap. Health insurance is expensive, especially if it covers anything. But it’s now within reach of most individuals.

IT’s solid afvice no matter where you work whether its McDonalds, pump gas at Exxon, or work on a porn set. Problem is many young people have this mentality that they are invincible.
