Jilted, when I say “wonderful productions,” I’m not comparing it to the mainstream film and television business – or even student filmmakers.

Even trying to compare the two is largely ludicrous. Only Jacky St. James’ romantic comedies and the occasional Marc Dorcel feature even come close at this point in my opinion.

And for the record, Marc Dorcel’s films have very large budgets since they’re partly subsidized by Canal+, as I understand it.

Maybe I should have phrased it “truly wonderful porn,” because that’s what I really mean. It *is* a craft after all. And those who are exceptional at that craft often do very well with our customers.

@Scott,,,you talk about the bubble that the porn world lives in, and that is true. Its that same bubble that has people thinking that even porn produces some “truly wonderful productions” when in fact, the absolute best of the best of porn productions, things like “Pirates” or anyother ‘big’ budget porn(lol) is at best, equal to a very good amatuer high school produced production. There is a agnet school in NY that routinely produces films that are better than the best porn ever produced, for less money even. The pain and heartache, well, having spent so much time at AIM i can guarantee youre right on that one. And about denial, let me share this quote from Sharon Mitchell, “Denial is the backbone of the porn industry(when it comes to healthcare). Truer words were never spoken.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about performers, director/producers, or rank and file office staff, too many of us believe that we’re in this kind of self-sustaining bubble – protected from the real world that lies beyond the membrane of that bubble.

I’m not sure if it’s hubris, denial, ignorance, or a combination of all three that makes this so prevalent. But it’s one our greatest identifying traits – for good or ill. That fearlessness has led to some truly wonderful productions. It’s also led to plenty of pain and heartache.
