The Don Juan DeMarko of lawyers has passed away
Joseph Salama, a troubled Marin County attorney of Egyptian descent who represented several adult film stars in the most incompetent fashion, has died “suddenly” according to family and ex-clients.
Salama was routinely unable to meet filing deadlines, or even show up when required. As this sample from 2022 illustrates, Salama was, at best, incredibly disorganized.
In this same matter, Salama tried to pass off another attorney’s work as his own, giving the copy/paste treatment to a Petition from 2018 that listed four Petitioners and specific allegations that had nothing to do his his one luckless client, causing confusion and embarrassment.
Over the last few years, Salama was often reprimanded; he found himself writing a lot of apologies, and begging forgiveness citing the end of a relationship and eviction from his office. The last place he listed for his law practice was a residential address in San Rafael.
Some who encountered Joe Salama in the last five years worried that he may have developed a substance abuse issue.
His life in ruins, Salama tried to build a client base of adult performers in need; some had been referred by East Coast Talent’s John O’Byrne by way of a California accountant who prepared their taxes.
Messages between Salama and two female adult performer clients show him sending rambling ‘love bomb’-style texts. Salama comes across as a Capt. Save-A-Ho, desperate to be around them — the Don Juan DeMarko of lawyers.
He persisted, but neither success nor longevity were in the cards for Joseph Salama.
We await the official determination of Cause/Manner of Death.
