Ok. First things first and I’ll get the “Amen,” as it pertains to respect and a Rodney Dangerfield-ish lack of it thereof, out of the way.

Whew. I feel better.

Not.

Anyway, as for Devan, let me say a few things.

1. Devan’s been around quite a few years more than two or three years. He’s paid his dues in many, many ways… in more ways, in fact, than more than a few other directors I’m acquainted with.

. I suspect there’s more to Devan’s rant, i.e., his reasons for writing it and the tone of his words, than simply bitching and whining–like a petulant child–about a general lack of promotion and/or recognition for his movie, “Prisoner.”

3. If i were to stand in front of Devan, look him in the eyes, and say, “Devan, shut the fuck up!” which I’ve done in the past and, as D knows, am perfectly capable of doing again should the spirit move me, it would be more because he gets to go home and have sex with the extraordinarily beautiful Justine Jolie just about every night than anything else.

But let’s not forget the real truth in terms of porn directors receiving acknowledgement for their art– In the grand scheme of things and in the eyes of the vast majority of people on this planet, directing porn is not a particularly respect-worthy or award-worthy or even promotional-worthy endeavor. To many people, pimps and prostitutes and pond scum are more worthy of accolades or, at most, held in similar regard. That’s why we turn to ourselves and our peers and associates to somehow feel more important about who we are and the work we engage in.

Each January, when we hold our heads high and walk that long, red carpet to the awards show, those crowds of people who watch in wonder aren’t there because they are adoring and devoted fans. Nor are they there to pay homage or heap acclaim on a bunch of cherished, admired, idolized and celebrated sexual artists… they’re there to watch the circus arrive.

I’m not complaining. I’m not ashamed. I’m just stating some facts.

And as usual yer on the money…and as Devan knows…I like the guy and I owed him one, but I do sense that his already self inflated ego had gotten a tad…out of control.

Next Update: Vivid has moved to Gainesville, GA and they now have a charter.net email address.
