  1. It is too bad Anna tatted her chest like that. She could probably have had a decent run in adult film but she disqualified herself from at least 75% of adult film roles with her chest tat (even Jim Powers who will hire almost any female performer of legal age has said that tattoos make a woman look like a “Philadelphia biker slag” and that he prefers women without tattoos). I know that tattoos are more acceptable in the industry as of late but chest (and crotch) tattoos still aren’t overlooked. I actually feel bad for her and what she lost. Assuming she keeps to her Saturday evening live show each week instead of partying her weekend away (I would bet half of porn is in the bars and clubs drinking well into the night at that time and not thinking about work), behaves in at least a half-ass professional manner on set and shows up to the jobs she can get on time combined with what she would have looked like without the nasty chest tat she would have probably done quite well. Erika (who at least last I knew was an adult industry publicist) has her work cut out for her with this one. I wish Anna the best and hope other aspiring porn performers think twice before costing themselves $200K plus in lost work like Anna did.

Speaking of the author of this article, welcome to the Mike South blog, Erika. You probably have many stories to tell as long as you have been in the business. I for one would be very interested to read some of them (with names changed or removed as necessary to protect the guilty, of course).

  2. If a girl is gonna make her living with her body then she needs to keep it in the best shape possible to maximize her earning potential and tattoos take away jobs and $$$$.

  3. Personally, I agree with your observation, Karma. I did point out that certain parts of the body are worse places for tattoos than others but I would much prefer that women didn’t get tattoos at all. I don’t think tattoos make a woman more feminine or more attractive, the opposite is usually true. The face, neck, chest and crotch are no-gos with the stomach a dicey proposition for a tattoo on a porn performer chick. The ankle or the “tramp stamp” on the back is less of a problem. Anna is a really sorry situation — she would have probably been quite attractive without that chest tattoo. At least Bonnie Rotten is ugly anyway, Christy Mack would have been passably attractive without the tattage but with them she is ugly as sin. Joanna Angel would also have been very attractive without the tattage, she only made it because she became a director and producer — and actually saved many overly tatted porn chicks from starvation and homelessness by creating a company specializing in tatted skanks (and hiring them).

  4. Thanks for all the thoughts, guys, and the welcome MHarris. Anna Claire doesn’t do mainstream porn. She does really well with her site and Premium Snapchat. So the tats don’t seem to be affecting her biz. If she was in mainstream, it might be a different story. Arya Fae has the same type of tattoo, and she works all the time. So, I guess each case is different. I still do PR for my company The Rub PR. That hasn’t changed. 🙂

  5. I apologize for mistaking your client for someone else, Erika. That type and location for a tattoo is not a common one but two people with basically the same tattoo happens. Arya may be working relatively steady but the question is for what companies and what kind of money can she command for her scenes. There are directors like Jacky St. James, Greg Lansky, Holly Randall and all of the directors at Wicked that have limited roles for someone with prominent chest, breast, stomach, neck or facial tattoos (if I had to guess a recently applied, large stomach tattoo is probably why Stormy Daniels is no longer a contract performer for Wicked after working exclusively for them for at least 15 years). They also happen to be the most respected directors and produce some of the highest paying roles in the biz. I wish both Anna and Arya well and hope they can continue to make a living in their part of the adult industry. For the record Mike South (the creator and the guy this site is named after) is also suggesting new performers create their own site or sell on Clips 4 Sale, ManyVids, etc. as they can be paid more for their scenes over the long term that way. I tend to at least partially agree, if someone can make their own content and profit from it for the next 40 or 50 years why not do it. I do disagree with Mike on mainstream porn getting a performer’s name out there. Mike seems to think there isn’t an advantage to making at least a few scenes for respected adult film or internet companies at all nowadays. I think it can still do that and allow a performer to get the money to buy a good video camera, higher-line editing/streaming computer, set up an area that looks professional to film scenes, etc., pay for competent legal advice on how to set up a streaming or adult film company and pay performers to co-star in her self-produced scenes while getting started (combined that could easily push $10,000). I do agree with Mike that if a woman has the money to get started and is willing to start from scratch that it isn’t necessary to start out performing for other production companies. Performers today just have to be smart about it — not keeping a scheduled streaming session or not showing up to set on time due to drugs or laziness will take a person’s career downhill fast! One suggestion I have for streaming performers such as Anna Claire and Bailey Rayne are to communicate early and often if a streaming session needs to be skipped for a good reason. Also, if a performer accepts a role in a self-producer, mainstream or BDSM director’s movie, show up on time unless the reason for ditching the scene is dire (a VD infection, a serious medical problem requiring hospitalization, broken bones or a parent dying are probably good enough reasons to skip work — but then at least call the director if you can and the production company office if you can’t). In most cases the director won’t complain if you show up a half-hour early, shooting for that will give you some leeway if you get caught in the infamous downtown LA traffic (another related piece of advice — keep a pack of 3M particulate face filter masks with an exhalation valve in your car (the versions with replaceable circular filters are overkill for this purpose) and use one if caught in LA traffic on a smoggy day –they are so ubiquitous that they are even sold in some Wal-Marts nowadays, almost all hardware stores will have them, here is an example not monetized by me: https://amzn.to/2kD14L4 ).
