During the crossing of “The Mayflower” bringing some of our forefathers to America in The fall of 1620, a 25 year old Pilgrim named John Howland went up on deck to help the crew. Howland was inexperienced and in the stormy seas he fell overboard into the cold North Atlantic as the boat listed heavily. Howland was able to grab a rope hanging down from one of the masts at just the last second. Had he missed or had the crew not been able to haul him back in, The United States of America would be a different place today.
