Sorry For The Tardiness

If you have been watching the news you know what happened in Atlanta yesterday and yes i was in the middle of it returning home from a Dr appointment.  I left the doctor at 3PM on  Tuesday with about 12 miles to go home,  I got home at 3PM on Wednesday. Gridlocked traffic litterally had me spending the night in my truck….I wont bore you with all of that…just glad to be home.

  1. geez….saw it on the news tonight…what a mess!…glad you’re okay and I hope you had some blankets or something in the car… scary and cold I’m sure…

  2. Hope you had some comforts in yer truck to tide you over through the ordeal…or a nearby RV with accommodating owners 🙂 that shit sucks

  3. as much of a pain in the ass as it was there was really not a good story in it…I peed into a big cup and poured it out the wondow…I turned the truck off to conserve gas and napped when I woke up shivering I started the truck and ran it till the heat got it hot inside then I started over…the lesson learned was if i hear the word snow in relation to atlanta weather I go home and stay there

  4. Lol we actually refused to fly through Atlanta Wednesday after having six flights cancelled over the previous 24 hours. When we got to Charlotte for the E to B concourse shuffle with thirty minutes to make the connection to NOLA we had a serious sigh of relief to see our flight wasn’t one of the many red cancellations again. I-10 was closed when we landed and the causeway closed again after a short opening when temps dipped again.

  5. I am glad you are OK. Here we recommend carrying a blanket, nutrition bars, bottled water (although you have to find a way to thaw it) and keep at least a half-tank of gas at all times. A mini propane-tank heater and several mini-propane tanks (they are about a pound each) would also be advisable if you travel far. The heater is about $50, the pre-filled disposable tanks about $3 each, the heater is about 4K BTU which in most cases would heat the interior of a truck enough so that you don’t have to run the engine, it would run about 5-6 hours on a pound tank. If you don’t smoke be sure to pack some safety matches as well.

Unfortunately, my month wasn’t much better, I just spent $1900 on a new natural gas furnace (and installation). In Michigan you have to have one for the winters, our lowest temperature this January was -10 F. Mine died New Year’s Eve. To add insult to injury for the installer, my hot water heater is on the unplowed side of my home and the gas had to be shut off at the meter to install the furnace so he had to wade through five feet of snow (literally, this is the snowiest winter in 30 years here) twice to shut off the gas then to turn it back on and relight the pilot light on the hot water heater. May February be a better month for both of us.
