RIP To A Rare Great One Elmore Leonard

Ok It doesn’t have anything to do with porn but it does have to d with me.  As many of you know I am an avid reader and among my favorite authors, and I mean top 3 is Elmore Leonard.  His passing yesterday at age 87 is a loss to original American literature, he revolutionized the mystery crime genre with his smart and richly developed characters.  He was prolific with a career beginning in the early fifties, he started with Westerns and never really abandoned those roots.

His most current is “Justified” one of the few TV dramas I enjoy (Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder is BRILLIANT and a classic Leonard character, not all bad but far from good)

Anyway I’m gonna miss his writing.

If you haven’t read them I highly recommend “Rum Punch”  (Made in the movie Jackie Brown), also “Get Shorty” and “Maximum Bob”

I’ll bet even God reads Elmore Leonard

  1. Mike, we share a taste in literature. Elmore Leonard is one of my all time favorites as well. I haven’t read the stories that are the basis for Justified, but it is one of my favorite television shows.

So, here’s a footnote. 52 Pick-up, a Leonard book turned into a movie starring Roy Scheider and Ann-Margaret, has cameos by several 70’s porn stars, including Honey Wilder, Amber Lynn, Tom Byron, Herschel Savage and a much slimmer Ron Jeremy.

  2. Haha I KNEW that in a career that prolific there had to be a porn connection LOL

I recommend you read Fire In The Hole its a short story and in all honesty I like the TV show better than it or the spin off Raylin. but that is mostly because of the Boyd Crowder Character…I mean Walton Goggins is PERFECT in that role.

  3. They’re all perfect. Boyd, Eva, Raylin. I love Art Mullen, Raylin’s boss. Years ago, I worked on a TV movie of the week with Nick Searcy, who plays Mullen. He’s a great character on the show and he was a really good guy in real life as well. I have Fire In The Hole and the spinoff books on my list.
