Consent in Porn

Ok this one bothered me a LOT…I will explain.

Collin Rowntree, a guy I like, did a seminar on consent in porn apparently for XBiz, he videotaped it and Adella sent me a press release.  Normally this is something I ld be all over.

Normally

Problem is the video is one hour and 26 minutes long, shot on a stationary camera placed at the back of the classroom.  The audio is barely intelligible. It’s unedited, people dont speak clearly, much of it repeats itself and there is no way Im going to suffer that on my readers, I have more respect for you guys, I suggested to Colin that he edit it down to 30 minutes, he refused claiming that would be…”censorship”….ummmm OK….

I had other minor issues not the least of which was that the moderator was Chauntel Tibbals,  it seems odd to say the least that a close friend of Uncle peg and his punching bag Cristina would be on a panel about consent…much less moderating it.  Other panelists were Mark Schecter, Nina Elle, Mercedes Carrera, Mickey Mod, and Dee Severe.

Allow me to give some suggestions to people doing this in the future  the purpose of a video like this (a documentary) is simple and to make it work you have to answer who, what, when, where how and why.

First thing is what, this video didn’t say, then comes who, they all introduce themselves but none of them bothered to say why they thought they were qualified to speak on the subject, which you don’t know what it is.

An 86 Minute static wide shot with bad audio…NOBODY is going to sit through that.  if it’s important enough to film its important enough for at least one camera operator and for gods sake check the audio…and edit it…if you cant answer a simple question like consent in porn in 30 minutes you aren’t doing it right!

You really need at least ONE recognizable name…like Stoya or JoAnna Angel, or Lisa Ann or even James Deen.

The biggest sin in any form of filmmaking is for it to be BORING!

And for the record no i did not watch all of it, I simply couldn’t…they all said the same thing, agreed with each other…..There was nothing informative, enlightening or entertaining….In the word’s of Kevin OLreary aka Mr Wonderful…Take out behind the barn and shoot it…

all of that said if you really want to slog through it here it is

Don’t say I didnt warn you.

  1. You see the same thing in interview type porn scenes (Woodman films, Girls Do Porn, etc…). You can clearly hear the interviewer off camera but can barely hear what the girl is saying because her mic is turned way down low or there isn’t even one for her.

  2. It was all a bit complex and difficult. The venue had horrible acoustics and the audio was crap, even with washing it…
I was actually just the data sherpa on this one.
As for editing it down to watchable length with artistic merit, this one was more like CSPAN than a movie or crafted documentary. Anyway, it’s on the public record now which was the point! A crappy product, but “art” was not the point on this one. This one was all about the words. So many words! But ones needing to be expressed.

  3. @Colin

Are there plans for future ‘Consent’ events? Read a partial transcript from the event somewhere & it covered an array of high points that could easily stand alone as focus topics. It’s exciting proactive producers are working to get a conversation going, would be a disappointment if all it comes to is increasingly better filmed ‘karaoke Mic exchanges’

Quite possibly, but probably in our regular format at mindbrowse.com rather than a largescale broadcast event. There simply isn’t any funding for this sort of educational programming in adult, we we produce an ongoing series of “shows” on a variety of topics simply as a public service 🙂 Check out previous shows at http://www.mindbrowse.com to get the feel for what we do in that regard.

  5. Audio does make it difficult to listen to. Any chance there will be a transcript available soon?

  6. Ty Colin, will head over to link at some point. Seems lack of training $ is a universal issue. We did something interesting for a quick service food franchise to prioritize marketing and training efforts. Each year at big annual convention curtained photo booths are spread out on awards night one year we set them up at start rigged for audio recording with a list of topics to choose from. awards night people wanted audio back vs silly photo strips. Places like JW Marriott Scottsdale 16 machines, six on hard floor, six between vendor rooms and four near main ballroom.

Vendors sponsor them but can not choose or change list of topics. Various committees each submit top three question choices to foster diversity w/o duplication. Still amazes me how those five days elicit more feedback than a year of phone, web, receipt promotions etc combined.
