Tiny Frederick County begins first prosecution under VA ‘revenge porn’ law

Prosecutors in Frederick County, Virginia (population 79,000) are bringing a Winchester man to trial under the state’s 2014 “revenge porn” law designed to punish people who try to harass or shame individuals by posting nude images of them online.

The Winchester Star reports

When a Warren County, Virginia woman started getting Facebook messages from men who wanted to connect with her, one included a link to a pornographic website with a video featuring her and her then-boyfriend Donald E. Rosenquist Jr.

Rosenquist, 51, of the 200 block of Alpine Road in Winchester, has been charged with two counts of unlawful dissemination or sale of images of another. He is due in Winchester General District Court at 1 p.m. Sept. 24.

Rosenquist is the first person prosecuted under the law in Frederick County or Winchester, according to Ross Spicer, Frederick County commonwealth’s attorney.

The woman told police she asked Rosenquist to take down the video, and he lied and told he had. She said in addition to the video having her full name, it also listed her hometown, which led to the men contacting her.
