An elementary school teacher in Palo Alto, Calif. was arrested Thursday for allegedly engaging in sex acts with a minor that were captured on video.
Investigators were tipped off by a student from Woodside High School who noticed Dawn Giannini, 49, in several videos uploaded onto a porn website engaged in sexual acts with a teenage victim, news station KNTV reported.
The victim wasn’t a student of Giannini’s, but they are related, according to the Palo Alto Daily Post. Police didn’t disclose the nature of their familial relationship.
Officials said the investigation was launched after the teen girl was recognized on PornHub by a classmate.
Investigators believe the teen herself uploaded the footage to the porn site. The erotic scenes were allegedly filmed starting in 2014 when the victim was 14 years old, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
“We know that this occurred in at least two counties,” San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe told KNTV. “It occurred here in our county, in Redwood City and there was a trip down to Santa Cruz that she took with the victim and there was sexual activity there.”
Giannini was arrested Oct. 18 on more than two dozen felony charges involving sexual misconduct with a minor.
She is being held in jail on $1.75 million bail and set to appear in court next on Nov. 5.
Redwood City School District fired Giannini from a substitute teaching position in light of the arrest, the Palo Alto Daily Post reported.
