Will self-made content be the death of the porn industry?

Every few years porn changes, it’s just the nature of our business. When I first started in the industry we were pushing out VHS tapes.

Then one day there were these CD things. They weren’t big enough to hold a whole movie, only about 70 minutes, so some titles had to be edited for the format. Luckily those didn’t stay around long. Next came this new crazy technology called DVDs. 🙂

Then came video on demand, where fans could for the first time watch movies online. It was a big deal and a lot of companies resisted the change. Then again just as many people were sure that making movies not on film would be the death of us.

It’s hard to imagine not doing things the way that we do today, all digitally. But back then, the resistance was strong. People weren’t sure this new fangled technology truly would be the end of us. It wasn’t. Obviously. Yes, it was the end of an era, but not the end of the industry as a whole.

See the thing of it is, our industry is constantly in flux. Things are changing every few years. Sometimes it may be hard to imagine how the industry can survive certain changes, but inevitably it always does — one way or another.

Right now Aaliyah Hadid has 903 fans on her OnlyFans account who pay to see her self-made content. These are guys who pay her every month and that money adds up fast. In fact, so far this month she has made just over $9,000.

And she did that all without having to be on a set and deal with low end, douche bag producers like Jimmy Lifestyles. She also doesn’t have to share any of the money she made with an agent, work with anyone she doesn’t like nor does she have to pay for an uber to and from the set. She also doesn’t have to sit on a set all day, while the director gets his shit together.

Aaliyah Hadid’s earnings aren’t unusual. Here is what Katrina Jade’s ex-husband post what they made this month, almost $14,000 for the month of April.

Like it or not, this is the wave of the future. Porn stars are sick of creepy producers, and lazy ass agents.

They don’t want to have to sit on a set all day for $800 to $1,000. Heck in some cases girls are sitting on set for as much as 10 hours for way less than $800. Why put yourself through that when you don’t have to?

There are some girls making $20,000 a month on their OnlyFans and just as much on their Fancentro account. They post short videos of themselves giving some guy a blowjob on OnlyFans and on their SnapChat they’ll stream a live shot of them playing with their pussy.

It may not be an award-winning movie, but hey, it’s enough to make fans happy and in return, that girl can make a crazy amount of money.

Yes, there are girls who have started to earn 7 figures a year – not everyone, but a few of the top girls are hitting the nearly $80k to 90k a month mark. Do the math and you’ll see that by the end of the year they’ll have made over a million dollars — all without ever having to step foot on a traditional set with some creepy ass production who insists they go out to get more shoots.

Sadly this system only works for established stars who have a following on Twitter. You need to have a fan base to market your movies to. So for new girls, they’ll still have to do the traditional grind, at least until they build up enough fans to do it on their own.

What do you think about the change in the industry?

  1. It’s great for the girls that can make their own money and own their own content, but then again it’s a step back for the consumers and production value of porn.

Even though the top girls make alot of money they don’t seem willing to invest in better equiment like a vieo camera and then edit it afterwards.

There is a huge difference in qulity in let’s say a brazzers scene and a short snapchat or of scene

  2. Girls going that route need to invest to make the money back. Too many of these self made clips are on cell phone cameras or a single grainy stationary camera across the room and the consumer has to struggle to see whats going on.

  3. Once Premium SC and OnlyFans get shut down, these girls will have a problem. Plus they wont get nominated or win awards with this kind of content. We know how these girls egos are. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

  4. As soon as the AVNs/XBIZ are over some girls go to work on getting promoted for next years award show.

  5. Karmafan, if they’re only doing clips, Premium Snap and OnlyFans, they can’t be nominated or win AVN and XBIZ Awards for the most part. Promotion will mean nothing.

  6. I think Karma meant that the girls are using movies to get fans for their OnlyFans, FanCentro, Snapchat, etc. As long as they perform in 10-12 movies a year the top female performers have a reasonable chance for an AVN nomination and they also help drive fans into their own clips/movies.

As for camera and lighting equipment, if a girl is bringing in $14K per month off of OnlyFans (about $8K after taxes and ancillary related expenses) and the like they don’t have any reasonable excuse not to spend $4K on a nice professional video camera, a professional tripod and professional lighting. Hell, a girl with that kind of cash coming in can have her suitcase pimp learn how to operate a video camera and have him do it. Using a cell phone camera for this purpose is asinine and ruins their chances of getting repeat business. They also need to move into a house (or rent a small studio facility which they could sublease to other producers while not using it him/herself like James Mogul, JP the Pope and Fivestar have had to do for their Kink productions; JP advertises his studio heavily for that purpose — just don’t do it in LA County or you will pay dearly with jail and fines for no permit/no condumms) where some part looks nice and can be dedicated to filming, preferably away from LA County’s discriminatory and asinine film permit process for the adult film industry.

  7. I’ve seen one well known porn girl asking for $25 for a 6 minute BJ scene on their OnlyFans and it was filmed with a cell phone camera.

Only a moron with more money then brains would buy that.

  8. Hadid also doesn’t have to pay the stunt cocks since she does content trade. Which means that is all profit.

  9. Why should they upgrade their equipment if they make thousands using their iphone? to make YOU happy? the cucks who pay 9.99 are happy with the horrid cell phone footage shot in portrait mode. What you think doesn’t matter. Money talks, a chick making 10k a mth doesn’t need to buy any equipment.

  10. The people bitching about upgrading equipment have absolutely no idea what this is all about. Fans are inundated with all the “higher production value” content they can handle, for free! The fans subscribing to OF want real world stuff, her behind the scenes, real life, or at least what the girl wants to put off as real world. The fact that it is cell phone cams shot like crap just pulls off that whole look and feel of being amateur, spur of the moment stuff.

  11. Smoke, using an iCrap phone might work for on-set BTS. However, for filming scenes and for streaming it is not acceptable to use a cell phone camera. If a performer routinely makes $9K per month using her cell phone camera she will likely make $15K with a decent dedicated movie camera. She might get people in the door with a cell phone camera but her re-bills will increase drastically with even a $2K digital movie camera and a decent tripod. Most people want high quality scenes and clips, not some grainy cell phone camera.

  12. Smoke, Aaliyah Hadid doing content trade is a way to get more bang for her buck. However, that means her “stunt cock” also has rights to use the scene and that might reduce the amount of money she makes off of her site since the scene someone might be looking for might be available elsewhere. It is a way to get started and get some money rolling to buy proper equipment and fund future scenes but once established I would recommend the ladies limit content trade scenes and just pay the “stunt cock” for his time. That way, you have the only rights to the scene and people can only legally get it from you (unless you assign the rights away). Also, do a search for your scenes on Google and write out the necessary DMCA notices to get your scenes off of the tube sites (or if your site has hundreds of scenes on it hire the task out). Also, read the section 2257 law and follow it by the letter. Get legal advice from an adult film industry attorney on how to do this. If you don’t, you will go to federal prison for not doing so at some point — guaranteed (now that I think of it that might be a way to get rid of Trinity St. Clair — I doubt she has section 2257 paperwork on the videos of her johns fucking her and she was posting them to her site at one point)!!!!!!!!!!

  13. mharris, the stunt cocks & johns on hadid’s & st clair’s OF won’t make $9,000 a month with their copy. She & other content traders have great ROI, invest $0 in talent fee and make thousand$ while they show up to paid shoots with sore pussy & cock and expect $1000-$1500. If i was a director in porn valley, I wouldn’t hire any performer with a OF or JFJ.

  14. also they don’t need to upgrade from iphone because the market doesn’t require it. What the market requires is jerky pov portrait shot video.

  15. Smoke, I guess I don’t understand the market, then. I don’t want to watch a video filmed on an iFuck, I want a decent quality scene. There is a place for POV using a smaller but still quality video camera (they were being done for movies in the early to mid 2000’s — POV isn’t new by any means), those only cost a few hundred dollars but too many performers doing them will saturate the market and then every OnlyFans, FanCentro, etc. performer doing them will see their profit margins drop precipitously.

As for these performers working for traditional directors, they still need to do 10-12 movies a year to keep their names out there so they can then guide their fans into their Only Fans, FanCentro, etc. accounts. I don’t expect them to all turn into prima donnas anytime soon (a few will but that would have happened anyway).
