The latest scientific evidence about HIV and PreP / Truvada

Members of the Free Speech Coalition claim they want us to be informed. That with education we will stop “stigmatizing” those who are HIV+ and will see that it’s perfectly safe to work with them.

It’s not.

They want us to be aware of the latest scientific data. So let me share with you the facts.

Truvada, the medication they want us to take so that we will be protected from getting HIV cost an estimated $1,500 per month. That means in addition to your monthly bi-weekly testing fees, you’ll now need to come up with an addition $1,500 per month.

While many people will tell use they have taken it and tolerated it well, let’s talk about the scientific facts. The common side effects of Truvada include:

  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • stomach pain,
  • diarrhea,
  • headache,
  • dizziness,
  • depression,
  • anxiety,
  • skin discoloration,
  • joint pain,
  • anemia,
  • trouble sleeping,
  • strange dreams,
  • back pain,
  • itching or skin rash,
  • changes in the color of skin on your palms or soles of your feet, or
  • changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your arms, legs, face, neck, breasts, and waist).

There are also the more serious side effects which include:

  • mental/mood changes (such as depression, anxiety),
  • loss of appetite,
  • stomach or abdominal pain,
  • pink or bloody urine, or changes in the amount of urine,
  • genital ulceration,
  • kidney problems which include little or no urination, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath; or
  • liver problems which include nausea, swelling around your midsection, upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Like it or not, there is no medication that is without risk, especially when mixed with other medications, drugs or alcohol.

As many as 10% of the people who take Truvada have one or more of these symptoms. I mean that’s just what we need, to have to pay $1,500 a month to get diarrhea, depression, insomnia, genital ulcerations and a rash on other parts of their bodies.

Because nothing is more attractive than a tired, depressed porn star that has a rash and diarrhea.

But let’s take away those issues and talk about something far more serious – drug resistance. While it is rare, it does happen. There are at least two scientific studies that prove it does happen.

I’m sure by now you’ve heard of drug resistant strains of all kinds of illnesses including gonorrhea.

In 2017 the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that drug-resistant HIV is on the rise. This means PrEP won’t work for these people.

It is reported that more than 10 percent of patients starting antiretroviral therapy (ART) had a type of HIV that was resistant to the most commonly used HIV medicines.

Now read this part very carefully, but again the FSC wants us to be educated on the latest scientific findings ….

According to a 2015 study, although rare, PrEP can result in treatment resistant mutations of HIV.

There are currently two documented instances of PrEP failure in patients who kept strictly to the drug regime. One was in New York City and the another was in Toronto.

Each of the strains of HIV they contracted were resistant to both medications in Truvada, the standard PrEP drug.

So just how safe do you feel now knowing that more than 10% of people may be resistant?

Look at the list of side effects. That’s a lot of potential issues for taking a pill that will cost you $1,500 a month.

Some will argue “porn stars can get cheap health insurance to help reduce the cost” but if that were true, we would all have this magical cheap health insurance right now. Sorry but it just flat out doesn’t exist. If it did, we would all have it!

The FSC wants us to learn about the FACTS, the latest scientific evidence. Well now you have it. Now you know the truth, not the bullshit flung at you by those with their own agenda.

Take all of that away and I want to discuss one very serious issue with you. Many porn performers already suffer from some form of mental health issue. Do we really want to now force them to take a medication that is known to cause depression and anxiety in as much as 7% of everyone who takes it?

  1. Putting everyone on this so they can allow HIV positive performers on medication regimes to work without disclosing their status is an absolute horrible idea.

This is no common sense, this is dangerous, this is why the female performers need to work hard to build their own network of income and not rely on shooting scenes for the main companies. This is a massive red flag if this becomes common practice.

  2. Allowing HIV positive performers to work with HIV negative performers is asinine and insane! I hope the FSC backs off of this one, I have a feeling that the industry will lose about 80% of the current performer base if they persist in implementing this policy. If the FSC implements this policy, don’t use PASS, insist on the written VD test results and an additional ELISA HIV test. ELISA is slow to detect (which is why the industry uses a PCR-RNA test) but once detected it will pop positive no matter what medication regimen the HIV positive performer is taking and how well it is working. I am sure Talent Testing can administer an ELISA test right now, they do testing for physicians offices as well as talent VD testing. CET is pretty much a talent only company so they might not be willing or able to administer an ELISA test. Please note that the PCR-RNA is still necessary for the industry and my suggestion is to add the ELISA HIV test, not replace the PCR-RNA test.

  3. As soon as this information gets into circulation then whoever truly has the female performers best interest should immediately begin holding seminars to educate female performers on
    1. Dump your fucking agents {they wont tell you about the new risk}
    2. Get on Porn Hub Premium
    3. Get on a feature dancing binge if you can
    4. Sign up on MFC { this one might be first}
    5. Explore escorting options
    6. Or go home. fuck this

Start going to school and learn a viable trade for those who has washed out the game already or roll the dice

  4. Feature dancing and MFC type sites may be a good option for those that have established their name in the industry. Unfortunately, to feature dance (and probably to get exposure for MFC and the like) you have to establish yourself as an adult film performer. Even one movie theoretically could get someone a shortened lifetime of AIDS with the FSC’s new policy. With that in mind, what does someone in the situation where they need or want to get into this industry now knowing that AIDS infected performers will be admitted into the talent pool — even if she only intends to do 20 or so movies to establish herself for feature dancing? The ladies in the know will shun adult film even if it sentences them to a lifetime working at McDonalds or some factory to avoid getting AIDS (for this purpose HIV and AIDS are one and the same) — leaving only the desperate drug addicts, overly tatted skanks and women in a desperate financial position to fuck in adult films. I think the FSC must grow a brain and rescind their new policy allowing AIDS infected performers to fuck those not infected with the virus. If Pepe LePew wants to have AIDS infected people in the talent pool he should fuck them himself, not push to expose others to the virus!!!!!!!!!! If I were directing or producing, I would now require a written test document from Talent Testing with an ELISA HIV test along with the current PCR-RNA. I might even consider ordering a case of the instant ELISA tests from a pharmacy in Georgia (where the bukkake king Mike South has been buying them for years) where they are legal to sell without a prescription and require them before any scene involving genital contact.

  5. Maybe the FSC is not guilty of this and they just want to bring awareness as not to stigmatize disinformation.
    IDK

    Only issue is the timing

  6. Hop, I am tested every three months. I don’t fuck enough to justify twice per month VD testing like performers do.

  7. Fabrise, I have a concern suggesting escorting. Yes, you have the option to use a condom with lube and the fucking isn’t long and hard — lending itself better to condom use than adult film work. However, most johns expect sex and prostitution is illegal in 49 1/2 states with punishments ranging from probation (some areas of California) to life in prison without the possibility of parole (Michigan). There is one performer in particular (whose name I am not going to mention) advertising her prostitution locations on her Twitter and Slixa to the point where she is going to get busted someday because this makes her more susceptible to a sting operation by the cops (more aptly called pigs) that I am concerned about — and she is not a US citizen and here on a permanent residency so if she gets popped for prostitution she is likely fucked legally to the point where she will be ejected from the States. There are also almost no VD testing requirements for johns, even in the half state (half of Nevada) where prostitution in a brothel is legal so escorts run the same risk or more of getting AIDS that an adult film industry performer has if this hare-brained policy is implemented. I think escorting should be legal with the requirement of a full VD panel (including both ELISA and PCR-RNA HIV/AIDS tests) of both prostitutes and johns with the requirement that if any of the VD tests pop positive the person should be banned from prostitution or being a john until the pertinent VDs are cured. I used to use the services of escorts and street prostitutes myself, I always had a VD panel test before fucking a prostitute (this was pre-PCR testing) but many of them did not nor do most johns. Yes, I did use a condom and lube — even though I was impaired by a full night of drinking alcoholically by the time I went looking for some chick to fuck (yes, I drove the mean streets of the largest and most populous metropolis in Michigan as well as other large cities while drunk off of my ass — even did it with a motorhome a few times, those have a built in bed to fuck on in the back end) so being drunk or high is no excuse not to use a condom with a prostitute or “escort”.

  8. All the pretty girls are camming now, that’s where agencies and producers find them, these girls aren’t into hardcore porn anymore. Too many tattoo skanks, fatties and broke single mothers entering the business. FSC pretty much admitted they were thinking about allowing HIV+ into the talent pool last night on twitter. I want to know why stdcheck.com was removed form the approved testing centre for PASS even though they use lapcorp. Is it because they offer HIV1&2, HSV testing?

  9. Smoke, I hope that isn’t the case. I need to do some research on HIV 1 and 2 HSV, I am not familiar with that one. I am familiar with the ELISA/Western Blot series and both PCR-DNA and PCR-RNA. The ELISA/Western Blot tests take about 30 days to pop positive (it has been developed extensively to reduce the lead time from six months in the 90’s to the current 30 days) but once those antibodies are in a person’s bloodstream it will pop positive even if virus levels are too low for the PCR tests to do so. Adding that test to the VD panel will almost stop the possibility of an HIV positive person from working in this industry unless that person likes to do gay porn (where they really don’t give a fuck).
